Adventure Education within PETE and Physical Education (K-12) Professional development of Graduate Teaching Assistants
Dr. Sue Sutherland is an Assistant Professor in the School of Physical Activity and Educational Services. She received her Ph.D. from The Ohio State University in Adapted Physical Education and Physical Education Teacher Education. Dr. Sutherland teaches in the Physical Education Teacher Education program at both the graduate and undergraduate level. Her scholarly interests are in the areas of Adventure Education and teacher preparation. She has presented numerous times at International and National conferences in the areas of Physical Education and Adapted Physical Education. Dr. Sutherland received the Program Recognition Award from the Adapted Physical Activity Council of AAHPERD in 2005 for her work with The Adapted Adventure Sports Coalition. She also received a federal grant from the Office of Special Education and Rehabilitation Services to work in the area of adventure based activities for individuals with disabilities. Dr. Sutherland has authored or co-authored seven articles and book chapters in both Physical Education and Adapted Physical Education.
